Flexi-Smart contains avocado and soy unsaponifiables standardised to provide 30% phytosterols (beta-sitosterol, campesterol and stigmasterol). Research shows that these unsaponifiables have anti-inflammatory properties that are effective at helping relieve sensitive joints and improving mobility.

¤ Unsaponifiables make up the specific, non-glyceride fraction of vegetable oils from which they are extracted. Phytosterols have primarily been shown to inhibit cholesterol absorption and mitigate in its endogenous biosynthesis. Phytosterols in general and beta sitosterol in particular, are also considered powerful anti-inflammatories, and have antioxidant and analgesic properties too.

¤ In vitro and animal studies have shown that avocado and soy unsaponifiables:

- stimulate production of cartilage cells which are essential for healthy joint function. They therefore help slow down some of the unwelcome effects of arthritis ;
- help limit the harmful effects of interleukin-1 beta - inflammatory cells that play an important role in joint disease. They thus have a protective effect on joint cartilage ;
- help relieve the symptoms of arthritis and reduce the need for NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).

¤ Avocado and soy unsaponifiables may also be beneficial against gum disease in which similar inflammatory cells to those found in arthritis, play a key role.
