Standardised ginsenosides Rg3, Rg1 and Rb 1, extracts of Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer
Rg3 differs from other ginseng-based nutritional supplements in that it has a high concentration of Rg3, the most effective ginsenoside for relieving fatigue. Rg3 is only present in ginseng at trace levels. Two Chinese scientists and ginseng specialists have developed a purification process for the commercial production of this ginsenoside from ginseng. Rg3 contains the Rg3 ginsenoside as well as Rg1 and Rb1 ginsenosides.
Rg3 ginsenoside boosts immunity and relieves fatigue while Rg1 improves the heart and brain's blood supply and Rb1 has a calming effect. The combination of these three ginsenosides provides rapid relief from fatigue, improves blood supply to major organs as well as quality of sleep. It boosts intellectual and physical capacity.
Studies have shown the efficacy of this combination, when taken regularly, in improving intellectual and physical performance. It helps regulate the central nervous system, control nervous tension and ease stress. Rg3 ginsenoside can increase the activity of a number of immunological factors, promote immunoglobulin production, increase hematopoiesis and improve physical well-being in general.
In addition, in vitro and in vivo studies (mainly on animals) have demonstrated that:
- Rg3 and Rb 1 ginsenosides have an anti-stress effect and may have neuroprotective properties that are likely to protect the brain from stress;
- Rg3 and Rb 1 ginsenosides protect brain cells from glutamate-induced neurotoxicity. This effect may be linked to their ability to stimulate memory;
- Rg3, Rb1 and Rg1 ginsenosides have a selective neuroprotective action which helps boost cognitive function. They reduce beta-amyloid deposits and appear to control chronic cell inflammation and stress which play a role in diseases such as Alzheimer's;
- Rg 3 ginsenoside relaxes blood vessels as a result of increased nitric oxide production;
- Rg3 ginsenoside appears to have anti-cancer properties (it slows down proliferation of cancerous cells, has an angio-suppressive action, boosts the effectiveness of chemotherapy). Its action is dose-dependent.
