Inflammation Relief Formula contains natural nutrients that combat inflammation and relieve its symptoms by acting on its various mechanisms and stages. In particular, they work by inhibiting the two principal metabolic pathways of pro-inflammatory substances: the cyclooxygenases and lipoxygenase. ¤ IsoOxygene™ is a patented hop extract standardised in alpha acids. Preliminary in vitro, animal and human studies have demonstrated that they are effective at inhibiting the activity of cyclooxygenase-2 (Cox-2). A dose of 1000 mg of IsoOxygene™ was observed to provide pain relief comparable to that from Ibuprofen. IsoOxygene™ is as effective at inhibiting Cox-2 as Ibuprofen or Celebrex but without the side-effects of either drug.

¤ Ursolic acid and oleanic acid are pentacyclic triterpenes found abundantly in the plant kingdom. Powerful anti-inflammatories, they are able to inhibit human leucocyte elastase, as well as activity of Cox-2 and 5-lipoxygenase (Lox-5).

¤ 5-Loxin™ is a patented extract of Boswellia serrata standardised to provide 30% acetyl-11-keto boswellic acid (AKBA) which inhibits Lox-5 and reduces activity of another pro-inflammatory enzyme, HLE (human leucocyte elastase), associated with rheumatoid arthritis and respiratory disease. 5-Loxin’s effect on reducing inflammation is similar to that of NSAIDs.

¤ Cat’s claw extract (Uncaria tomentosa) has been used since the beginning of the 1990s as an adjuvant treatment for diseases involving the immune system or inflammation. In vitro and in vivo studies suggest that it may inhibit inflammation by anything from 46% to 89%.

¤ Nettle extract (Urtica dioica) has long been used in Germany as an adjuvant treatment for rheumatic diseases. Trials show that it reduces the release of pro-inflammatory substances such as IL-2, interferon-gamma or TNF-alpha.

¤ Luteolin is a flavonoid, a flavone found widely in the plant kingdom. Animal trials have shown it to have powerful anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic properties. One recent study highlighted the potential of luteolin to reduce age-related cerebral inflammation and so prevent cognitive impairment in certain cases.

¤ Biocurcumax™ is a highly bioavailable blend of curcuminoids and volatile constituents. Curcumin, one of the most potent curcuminoids, directly modulates metabolism of arachidonic acid and can block Cox and Lox inflammation pathways. Curcumin exhibited equal efficacy in rheumatoid arthritis patients when compared with anti-inflammatories such as phenylbutazone.

¤ Pepper is used in ayurvedic medicine to treat inflammation and allergies. Piperine is extracted from black pepper and long pepper. In animals, its anti-inflammatory effect has been shown to be comparable to that of oxyphenylbutazone, an anti-inflammatory drug. Piperine also boosts the activity and bioavailability of curcumin.
