¤ Glucosamine sulphate is similar to the substance produced naturally by chondrocytes. In arthritis, too little of this substance is produced and supplementation has been shown to be beneficial. The body uses glucosamine supplements to produce proteoglycans and glycosaminoglycans in the cartilage matrix.

- By blocking certain mechanisms, glucosamine slows down the progress of the disease and relieves its symptoms, the effects continuing for several weeks after treatment has ceased.

- Elderly subjects with arthritis of the knee who received glucosamine supplements experienced a significant improvement in pain and mobility compared with a placebo group.

¤ BioCell Collagen II® provides hydrolysed collagen type II (around 60%, as well as 20% chondroitin sulphate, and 10% hyaluronic acid). It is produced from natural sources, using a patented process which ensures easy absorption by the body.

¤ Chondroitin sulphate is a major component of cartilage, attracting water into the cartilage matrix, thus stimulating cartilage production. It also appears to prevent enzyme degradation of cartilage and delay the progress of joint degeneration.

- Supplementation with 400 mg chondroitin sulphate over 12 months was shown to slow down the progress of arthritis in the finger joints. Methyl-sulfonyl-methane (MSM) is a sulphur compound.

- Joints affected by arthritis contain low levels of sulphur ; MSM supplements reduce deterioration of the joints. A natural lubricant, MSM promotes joint comfort.

- In subjects with arthritis, six weeks' MSM supplementation reduced pain by 82%.

- Combining MSM and glucosamine protects joints and bones more effectively than either substance on its own. MSM and glucosamine supplementation was shown to reduce pain, inflammation and swelling in patients with moderate joint discomfort.
