Silymarin is a flavonoid extract of Milk Thistle seeds with powerful hepato-protective properties, demonstrated by several studies.
Silymarin is used to treat a number of liver disorders including cirrhosis, alcoholic steatosis, liver poisoning (including the amanite phalloide) and viral hepatitis. It protects hepatocytes from damage caused by ischaemia, radiation, iron overload' and toxins.
