DMAE (dimethylethanolamine or dimethylaminoethanol) is the precursor of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter. It is naturally present in fish such as sardines or anchovies.
¤ DMAE has been used successfully to treat various behavioural and cognitive problems including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and lapses in memory.
¤ In animals, DMAE raised choline levels in the brain, increasing its ability to produce acetylcholine and resulting in improvements in memory.
¤ In studies conducted on children with ADHD, DMAE produced benefits comparable to those obtained with Ritalin. It increased attention, short-term memory and learning capacity.
