OptiVision is a comprehensive and synergistic formulation. Its ingredients act in a complementary way to boost both visual function and the eyes’ antioxidant status, thus providing increased protection against free radicals, age-related degeneration and fatigue.
Studies suggest that:
• taurine, an antioxidant amino acid particularly concentrated in the eyes, protects them from the harmful effects of oxidative stress ;
• anthocyanin-rich blackcurrant extract (standardised to 30% anthocyanins) improves the eyes’ ability to adapt to darkness and helps them withstand eye strain associated with computer screen use ;
• bilberry extract (standardised to 25% anthocyanosides) has been shown in various studies to:
- improve night vision and adaptability to darkness, as well as help restore visual acuity following exposure to dazzling light,
- arrest collagen degradation in the eye, protecting the integrity of the ageing eye,
- prevent cortical senile cataract formation,
- improve the eyes of diabetic retinopathy patients;
• grapeseed extract (95% polyphenols) protects epithelial cells in the lens from oxidative damage and prevents cataract progression ;
• quercetin protects the lens from the harmful effects of hydrogen peroxide ;
• glutathione plays an important role in the functioning of the lens, in preventing cataracts, and in the early stage of AMD, protects epithelial cells in the retinal pigment. N-acetyl-cysteine and alpha lipoic acid combine to increase glutathione levels in the lens ;
• sodium R-lipoate is a sodium salt of R-alpha lipoic acid and in rats, alpha-lipoic acid has been shown to prevent the formation of induced cataract. It improves the condition of patients suffering from open-angle glaucoma ; a number of animal studies have shown that alpha-lipoic acid has a beneficial effect on the development of diabetic retinopathy ;
• vitamin A and its precursor, beta carotene, are essential for night vision ;
• retinal epithelium is rich in zinc which plays an important role in various enzymatic systems of the eye ;
• lutein and zeaxanthin, two components of macular pigment, protect the eyes from damaging blue light and free radicals. They help prevent the onset of age-related macular degeneration and are also beneficial against cataracts ;
• astaxanthin helps relieve eye strain associated with looking at a computer screen ;
• calcium 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF) is a form of folic acid with significant biological activity. Folic acid supplementation lowers levels of harmful homocysteine which is implicated in several eye diseases ;
• schizandra berry extract helps prevent eye fatigue.
