Scientists have long believed that green tea plays an important role in health and longevity. The most important of the catechins, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is a powerful antioxidant polyphenol found in green tea, to which most of the latter's benefits are attributed.
¤ Research shows that, in particular, EGCG :
- reduces over-expression of cyclooxygenase (COX-2) in studies on human prostate cancer cells, COX-2 being implicated in many types of cancer ;
- affects the expression and activity of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) involved in cell migration - metastasis - and other important cancer processes ;
- in animals, protects against nerve damage and cerebral oedema following unilateral ischaemia ;
- may interrupt the chain reaction which takes place in Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease ;
- regulates the genes involved in oxidation and the storing of fat as well as those involved in insulin signalling and glucose metabolism, thus preventing obesity and diabetes ;
- protects the cardiovascular system. It has a number of vascular-protective effects via a range of mechanisms including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-thrombosis and antiproliferative activity and lipid reduction.
- in epidemiological studies, the incidence of cancer is lower among green tea drinkers.

Each vegetarian capsule contains 350 mg of green tea extract.
