The ingredients in Prosexual Formula Woman have been selected for their synergistic and complementary effects on female sexuality:
- arginine, a precursor to nitric oxide, is essential for healthy sexuality in women. Low levels of nitric oxide may lead to inadequate blood flow in the genitals and, in turn, disturbed sexual response that may mean vaginal dryness or inability to reach orgasm ;
- maca, or Peruvian ginseng, has been used for years in Peruvian medicine to treat sexual problems and PMS as well as to relieve menopause symptoms. It regulates the hypothalamo-hypophyseal axis and promotes hormonal balance. Animal studies suggest it increases fertility, sexual activity and resistance to stress ;
- according to Ayurvedic tradition, ashwagandha possesses aphrodisiac properties. Studies suggest it stimulates nitric oxide production ;
- catuaba bark is used in traditional Brazilian medicine as an aphrodisiac and stimulant of the central nervous system ;
- supplementation with Avena sativa for six weeks has been shown to produce increased feelings of pleasure and frequency of orgasm in women ;
- dong quai, also known as ‘female ginseng', is used to regulate the menstrual cycle and relieve menopause symptoms. It is also considered a particularly effective tonic for women ;
- damiana was used as an aphrodisiac in ancient Mayan civilization. One study shows that taking damiana for four weeks, together with arginine, Ginkgo biloba and ginseng, improved female sexuality (enhancing desire, reducing vaginal dryness, increasing frequency of sexual relations and orgasm as well as clitoral sensation) ;
- ginger is traditionally used as a tonic, particularly in the case of sexual fatigue ;
- Ginkgo biloba improves circulation and stimulates sexuality in women ;
- vitamin B3 promotes the release of histamine which is involved in the sensations produced by orgasm ;
- chasteberry has a beneficial effect on hormone regulation, particularly that of progesterone ;
- Cimicifuga racemosa, or black cohosh, is used to relieve menopause symptoms and is particularly effective for vaginal atrophy in menopausal women.
