Of the menaquinones which form vitamin K2, menaquinone-7 is the fraction with the highest bioavailability and activity. Menaquinone has been used in Japan since 1995 to prevent osteoporosis and in particular, to prevent fractures of the hip.

¤ Research shows that menaquinone-7 regulates production of calcium :

• it activates a specific protein which optimises the binding of calcium to the bone structure essential for bone density, thus preventing the development of osteoporosis ;
• in blood vessels, it activates a protein which prevents calcium from being deposited in artery walls. By preventing calcification and hardening of the arteries, it exerts a protective effect against cardiovascular disease.

¤ The addition of vitamin D3 significantly boosts the action of menaquinone-7, particularly in the prevention of osteoporosis.
