is a metabolite of the amino acid Tryptophan and a direct precursor of the neurotransmitter inhibitor Serotonin. 5 HTP is found in its natural form in the grains of the African plant Griffonia simplicifolia
. 5-HTP effectively raises the level of Serotonin in the brain, but without the side effects of the class of medication known as the Inhibitors of the Recapture of Serotonin such as PROZAC, to which it offers a real natural alternative. The symptoms of Serotonin deficiency can include:
- Depression - Insomnia
- Anxiety and anguish - Obsessional behaviour
- Migraines - Craving for carbohydrates
- Toxicologic dependency - Aggressiveness.
In several recent clinical studies, 5-HTP has been shown to be superior or equal to medication
for treating depressed or anxious patients. One Norwegian study has shown that 5-HTP improves sleep

Take 2 capsules per day on an empty stomach, preferably two hours after the evening meal. Important: Do not take 5-HTP simultaneously with anti-depressants!
