DAO Histamine Control is a dietary supplement containing DAO, a natural enzyme produced by the body to break down dietary histamine.
Our plant-based DAO is protected by micro-encapsulation to resist gastric pH and release its active ingredients in the intestinal environment.
This product is classified in our category dedicated to gastrointestinal health.
Composition and benefits of our DAO food supplement
DAO deficiency and histamine intolerance
Diamine oxidase (DAO) is an enzyme naturally present in the intestine, whose function is to break down histamine ingested via our food.
DAO deficiency, one of the most widespread enzyme-related metabolic disorders in the world, causes an excessive accumulation of dietary histamine in our bodies, which can lead to histamine intolerance.
Since histamine is not metabolised correctly, it is absorbed by the intestinal mucosa, which can trigger symptoms such as headaches, skin redness, digestive problems, runny nose, etc.
Benefits of the 3 ingredients in DAO Histamine Control
More specifically, this DAO supplement contains a trio of ingredients:
-
microencapsulated adiDAO Veg® rich in DAO: this pea germ powder (Pisum sativum) is standardised in DAO. The DAO is microencapsulated to resist gastric acidity so that it reaches the intestine in optimum quantity and condition. Numerous clinical trials and other studies carried out on DAO-deficient individuals suggest that supplementation can reduce the number of headache episodes in migraine sufferers, reduce fatigue, stiffness and mood disorders in people suffering from increased sensitivity of the nervous system, reduce neuroinflammation in people suffering from attention deficit disorder, and alleviate various digestive, cardiovascular, respiratory and skin disorders (1-4);
-
quercetin extracted from Sophora japonica: this powerful flavonoid, abundant in red onions, broccoli and capers, is being studied for its special immune-modulating properties, which enable it to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation. It is of particular interest in allergy research. The source used, Sophora japonica (Japanese pagoda tree), is a majestic tree whose flowers are reputed to be rich in quercetin (5-6) ;
-
vitamin C: this vitamin contributes to the normal functioning of the immune system by supporting cellular defences and limiting inflammation. It also protects ingested DAO and reinforces its action by reducing the release of histamine and promoting its breakdown by other pathways. Vitamin C also helps to protect cells against oxidative stress and helps reduce fatigue (7-8).
5 key benefits of our anti-histamine DAO supplement
DAO Histamine Control has 5 key benefits:
-
microencapsulated DAO for controlled release and improved bioavailability: adiDAO® offers microencapsulated DAO, protected by a double envelope that allows it to pass through the digestive tract unharmed, particularly the stomach. This microencapsulation of DAO guarantees its targeted release in the intestine and its compatibility with other bioactive ingredients;
-
a vegan DAO: Unlike most commercial diamine oxidases, ours is not derived from pig kidney but from a vegan ingredient, pea germ (Pisum sativum);
-
a high activity level: the enzyme used in our product has a high enzymatic activity of 0.61 mU per capsule, or 1.83 mU per daily dose. For reference, 1 mU corresponds to the capacity to break down 1 nmol of histamine per minute;
-
synergy with 2 renowned complementary ingredients: our microencapsulated diamine oxidase is combined with two nutrients, quercetin and vitamin C, widely studied for their potential effects on maintaining the immune system;
-
plant-based capsules with natural excipients: just like their contents, the capsules used are 100% vegan. They are made from hypromellose (HPMC), a cellulose derivative, with acacia gum, a natural, plant-based ingredient, as the only excipient.
