The probiotic supplement Colon Friendly combines 4 microbial strains with benefits recognised by numerous scientific studies. This supplement is designed to ensure the microorganisms survive as far as your intestinal microbiota so that they deliver the maximum benefits for intestinal comfort. Colon Friendly is particularly beneficial if you suffer from irritable bowel syndrome or other recurring intestinal problems (1-3).

What is in Colon Friendly? What benefits does it offer?

The brand new formulation of Colon Friendly combines 4 strains of microorganism specially selected for their characteristics and synergistic capacity:

  • Saccharomyces cerevisae ;
  • Bifidobacterium longum infantis ;
  • Bifidobacterium longum longum ;
  • and Lactobacillus acidophilus.

Saccharomyces cerevisae

The microorganism Saccharomyces cerevisae is a yeastEgyptians, Babylonians and Celts used it to make bread, beer, kefir...

So, unlike the other ingredients in Colon Friendly, Saccharomyces cerevisae is a yeast rather than a type of bacteria. In fact, these single-celled microscopic fungi offer a dual advantage over bacteria:

  • they are more resistant in respect of antibiotics and stomach and bile acidity;
  • and they act more vigorously to help colonise the lower intestinal tract.

Studies have shown that taking Saccharomyces cerevisae helps with the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (4) by relieving abdominal pain, intestinal discomfort and bloating.

Bifidobacterium longum infantis

Bifidobacterium longum infantis, is a sub-species of Bifidobacterium longum, a type of beneficial lactic bacteria found in the human gut. Its name comes from the Latin prefix bifidus (cleft) which refers to its Y shape.

It is one of the first bacteria to colonise the intestinal tract of a new-born baby.

Bifidobacterium longum infantis is known for its ability to inhibit rotavirus infection of cell lines. It is due to this property that it is able to provide relief from diarrhoea and constipation (5-6). Infantis also helps combat other typical IBS symptoms: stomach ache, bloating, gas ... (7-8)

Bifidobacterium longum longum

Bifidobacterium longum longum is a second sub-species of Bifidobacterium longum.

Another lactic acid bacteria, it is also considered a ‘friendly’ bacteria for the intestinal tract. In particular, it maximises the ability of the intestinal mucosa to capture water from stools.

Bifidobacterium longum longum is known for its ability to relieve IBS symptoms, as well as for its benefits for the immune defences (9).

Lactobacillus acidophilus

The strain Lactobacillus acidophilus is undoubtedly one of the best known bacteria. This beneficial, non-mobile microorganism is found in milk, miso, sauerkraut, kefir, wine ... It’s also responsible for the slightly sour taste of yogurt.

It is found naturally in the human digestive system, in oral and intestinal mucosa. In the gut, Lactobacillus acidophilus helps to break down food and facilitate absorption of vitamin K. It also encourages the growth of other healthy bacteria, such as the previously-mentioned bifidobacterium.

Above all, Lactobacillus acidophilus is known for helping to reduce various symptoms of IBS (intestinal pain, bloating, too frequent bowel movements, diarrhoea ...) (10-11)

In short, taking Colon Friendly is a natural, safe and effective way of helping to reduce intestinal discomfort. In particular, this probiotic helps to prevent or relieve intestinal problems without causing any side-effects. Taking Colon Friendly is particularly recommended if you suffer regularly with intestinal problems especially IBS.

Any questions?

How should Colon Friendly be taken?

Colon Friendly capsules should preferably be taken in the morning on an empty stomach, for a period of two months, repeating the course regularly.

Supplementing with Colon Friendly may be especially beneficial following a course of antibiotics. Whilst very important for combatting bacterial infections, antibiotics have the disadvantage of destroying certain ‘good’ bacteria, which upsets gut flora equilibrium. The beneficial bacteria provided by Colon Friendly helps to restore that balance.

Why does the gut microbiota need probiotics?

The intestinal tract is a complex ecosystem that is host to almost 100 trillion microorganisms(that’s 10 times the number of cells there are in the human body). Within this microbiota are multiple strains, some neutral, some good and some bad. The latter are said to be ‘pathogenic’ when they increase to such an extent as to cause disease.

The good strains meanwhile, benefit various of the body’s functions:

  • energy production via fermentation of undigested carbohydrates;
  • bile acid metabolism and sterol metabolism;
  • synthesis of certain vitamins - B group vitamins, vitamin K, etc.

It’s therefore vital to maintain a good balance between these various microorganisms, which is precisely where probiotics come in.

The field of probiotics is constantly developing as new scientific discoveries emerge. Each new strain investigated has its own specific field of activity, thus opening new paths and continually expanding probiotic applications in the area of health and well-being.

What exactly is Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)?

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is characterised by recurring episodes of intestinal discomfort (bloating, flatulence, abdominal pain...), diarrhoea and/or constipation. It’s also known as spastic or irritable colon, or mucous colitis

More women than men suffer from this intestinal oversensitivity, with 2-3 women affected for every man (12). As yet, there is no effective treatment for IBS, but adopting certain dietary habits will help reduce the frequency and intensity of attacks :

  • eat balanced meals ;
  • don’t eat too quickly ;
  • drink plenty of water ;
  • identify those foods which exacerbate your symptoms: for some, that means avoiding FODMAP carbohydrates (in peaches, pears, fromage frais …), while for others, it’s foods high in insoluble fibre (tomatoes, peppers, radishes), etc. (13) ;
  • health professionals generally also recommend taking probiotics, as a source of ‘good bacteria’ for the gut (14-15). Colon Friendly represents an excellent option for helping to prevent and relieve episodes of IBS.
