Trigonelline is a dietary supplement containing trigonelline, an alkaloid at the heart of research into increasing NAD+, muscle strength, cell protection, longevity and healthy ageing.
Introduced to Europe for the first time, our trigonelline is distinguished by its powerful dosage (300 mg/day) and optimum purity of 98%.
Trigonelline is included in our longevity category.
Definition and benefits of trigonelline
What is trigonelline?
Trigonelline is a natural alkaloid also known as N-methylnicotinic acid (1).
It is the methylated form of vitamin B3 (niacin).
Trigonelline is present in coffee beans, fenugreek seeds and a number of other plants.
It is also produced endogenously by the methylation of niacin, with emerging evidence of a microbial contribution within the intestinal microbiota.
What is trigonelline used for?
Trigonelline appears to play several roles in promoting longevity and health, as suggested by recent preclinical studies:
-
a precursor of NAD+: research suggests that trigonelline can be used by the body to produce NAD+ (the essential coenzyme for cellular energy production) by participating in its internal recycling mechanisms, i.e. by helping cells to reconstitute NAD+ from derivative forms already present. In this way, it increases the levels of NAD+ and therefore of energy within the mitochondria, the energy centres of cells (2). This mitochondrial energy is essential for cellular and general longevity;
-
activation of SIRT1: by improving the availability of NAD+ in cells, trigonelline is also thought to boost the activity of sirtuin 1 (SIRT1), a protein that contributes to DNA repair, resistance to cellular stress and processes linked to longevity (3);
-
cellular protection: studies are exploring trigonelline's ability to combat oxidative stress by limiting the damage caused by reactive molecules, and to reduce inflammation by modulating the production of pro-inflammatory compounds, two factors known to damage cells and accelerate ageing. Trigonelline is thus thought to support healthy cell function, particularly at mitochondrial, tissue and vascular levels (4-5);
-
additional metabolic, cognitive and muscular benefits: several studies have found that trigonelline may contribute to normal kidney function, cardiovascular health, neuroprotection (with support for cognitive function), and maintenance of muscle mass and function despite sarcopenia, the muscle wasting associated with age (6-9).
4 key points and reasons to buy our trigonelline supplement
Trigonelline has 4 strong points:
-
an innovative active ingredient, unprecedented on the European market: our food supplement provides you with an innovative nutrient , the result of the latest scientific research into NAD+, cellular energy and longevity. It has never before been offered by a European brand;
-
a high dose, inspired by scientific data: each daily dose provides you with 300 mg of trigonelline hydrochloride, a stable, well assimilated form of the molecule. This large quantity has been chosen in line with the intakes used in the most recent experimental studies;
-
an exceptional purity of 98%: unlike fenugreek extracts, which rarely contain more than 5% trigonelline, our formula guarantees optimum purity, with an almost complete supply of the active ingredient (98%);
-
a controlled formula, with no controversial excipients: the ingredient is contained in 100% vegetable pullulan capsules (a natural polysaccharide derived from starch fermentation), with the only excipient being acacia gum, a natural compound that is particularly well tolerated.
